Born and raised a Maritime mermaid, Rian completed her B.A. in Anthropology and English at Mount Allison University in Sackville, NB.
Seeking a new challenge, she plucked herself from the tidal Tantramar mud in 2009, and tucked herself into the crotch of the Klondike and Yukon Rivers, in Dawson City, Yukon Territory.
After completing the foundation year program at the Yukon School of Visual Arts in 2010, Rian stayed in the Yukon, where she has made martinis in an old brothel, commuted by helicopter, and made many a print by candlelight in an unplumbed cabin.
In 2012 Rian and her partner purchased 150 acres of Yukon wonder, in the Klondike River Valley and the traditional territory of the Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in. They are currently building their homestead, chasing escaped chickens, and growing all the weeds, with the help of a fiery three year old.
